#4137 Evaluation of Professional vs. Community Theatre in Mid-Sized Ontario Communities

The purpose of this project is to examine the role of professional theatre versus community theatre in other communities in Ontario that are similar in size and demographics to Peterborough. Through specific case studies, we hope to determine how professional and community theatre manage to thrive (or not) working side by side in other communities and use this information to improve our status in Peterborough.
#4136 Oral Histories of Immigrants in Peterborough The goal of the project is to document immigrants’ stories of integration and to investigate the social determinants of immigrant wellbeing.
#4135 Evaluation Tools for Transition Housing ProgramThe purpose of the Cameron House research project is to propose a methodology and data collection tools, for use by staff at Cameron House and/or PHC, so that the long-term outcome for women living in the new transitional housing at Cameron House can be assessed.
#4128 Laws and Legal Implications of Public ProtestThe purpose of the project is to understand the laws and legal implications (municipal, provincial, federal and international) relating to civic demonstrations and public protest.  The research will also show what changes have taken place in law and police action and response over time, especially in the last 20 years and paying particular attention to the conduct of both sides at the G20 Summit in Toronto, summer 2010.
#4124 Mohawk Language VitalityThe purpose of this project is to document contemporary Aboriginal language re-vitalization efforts in the Kawannakatste First Nations community, to examine one example of the Kawannakatste Mohawk Language Arts organization and to further explore the significance of Aboriginal language retention and usage for individuals and organizations invested re-vitalization efforts. 
#4118 Promoting Permaculture Technique

The purpose of this project is to research and practice mulching and the permaculture technique known as sheet mulching in order to create an educational resource.  Ideally a booklet will be created which can be distributed to community gardeners within the Peterborough community.
#4116 Planning a Public Education CampaignThe purpose of this project is to raise awareness of an education week hosted by this organization.  The student(s) will assess pre-existing material and work plans of past education weeks, become aware of the work that this organization does, and help to organize the event and create new marketing materials and strategies to raise more awareness about the week.  
#4115 Food Items Education (Title will change) The purpose of this project is to produce eight informative and aesthetically pleasing public education posters.  Each poster will focus on one ingredient or item used by the organization and the posters will be hung on café walls.  Some issues to be contained include a) the source of the item b) the justification for its purchase c) its history d) alternatives to the mainstream food system.

The purpose of this project is to document and better understand heritage foods in the Kawartha region, what was grown, produced, and consumed by early settlers, and how they coped with their environment.
#4106 Food Security Cookbook

The project involves compiling research on local food security initiatives and how to eat healthy on a limited budget.  The student will also collect, test and modify recipes from staff and existing resources.  The student will then produce an informative and useful cookbook to be made available throughout the community.
#4104 Scan of Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention Services The project is to research and scan the range of services and programs available across the region (Peterborough city and county) for children who encounter the court system as victims of sexual assault or abuse.  Some things we would like to know include program descriptions, program duration, cost, numbers served, wait-times and eligibility criteria. By identifying potential gaps in programs and services, the organization may be able to expand programs to meet these needs.  We want to support the good work of others in Peterborough, without duplicating efforts.
#4103 BioPhyisical InventoryThere are several goals for this research project:1.  It would be helpful to know the story of this area. What first Nations People lived here, who settled the land, how has this area been used over the past several centuries?  We want to make sure to honour those who lived in this place. This, we feel, is at the very essence of good placed-based education.  2.  What past and current research has been conducted in the area?  What information about this area of land might be relevant to the teaching of environmental education?  3. It would be helpful to have a brief bio-physical inventory of this area.  What unique species reside here?  What species are invasive, what is endangered and what is the story worth telling about this land?
#4102 Medical and Medicinal History of 1830's PeterboroughThis project follows on the outcomes a CBE Project in 2009-10.  The purpose of this project is to reveal the medical cultural history contained in Dr. Hutchison’s ledgers.  We would like the student to produce a thorough glossary of terms of medical procedures, treatments and other historical terminology noted in the ledgers.  We would like to know the meaning and relevance of these terms in a scientific sense but also in a cultural sense.
#4101 Laws and Legalitites of Technology-Based Cyber Crimes The project is to research laws and legal status of technology-based or cyber crimes. We would like to know the answers to questions such as:  a) What laws concerning technology currently exist in Canada?  b) Are there any laws currently in the process of development?     c) Are there emerging trends in terms of legislating technology? d) Where is Canada on the subject, in comparison to other similarly-developed countries?
#4098 Needs Assessment - The Justice System and People with Intellectual DisabilitiesTo conduct a needs analysis to identify and study what resources the city and provincial police forces, and the justice system require in order to support persons with intellectual disabilities both as the victim and as the alleged perpetrator.
#4028 Best Practices for the Design and Construction of Small-Scale Stream Crossings

 With the aim of enhancing community-based stewardship capacity within the watershed region, the purpose of this project is to investigate best management practices for the design and construction of small-scale stream crossings for the movement of animals and machinery on farms. These crossings may include a mid-level with low-flow culverts crossing, a bed level crossing or a natural crossing. The goal of this project is to clarify and demystify some of the technical aspects of stream crossing design and construction in an effort to remove this perceived barrier. Ideally, the completion of this project will see the installation of a greater number of properly designed and installed stream crossings within the Otonabee Region watershed and within Peterborough County.
#4026 Education on Waste DiversionThe purpose of this project is to decide on a format for a public survey (electronic, telephone, mail-out, in–person?), develop survey content, administer ,gather results, and analyze the results to determine the best way to get information out to the public regarding the Region’s  waste diversion programs·         Look at  improvements to curriculum based education packages forRegion waste staff to use in classrooms. 
#4002 A Study of Rights-Based Development

This project is to research the current perspectives and applications of a ‘rights-based approach to development". Tasks include conducting a literature review of academic and non-government sources, conducting interviews with key resource people, creating a bibliography/resource list and resource binder of literature review documents, creating summary pages of the pertinent information in an easy-to-read format. Information gleaned and articulated by the student researcher will be incorporated into the ongoing work organizational planning and programs
#970 Promotion Plan for a "No-Sweat" Policy

This project aims to produce a package of materials promoting Trent University’s ‘No Sweat’ policy. In order for the policy to work, people need to know that it exists and applies to many different groups on Trent campuses. To that end, accessible educational materials, including leaflets and ‘fact sheets’ on the issues of sweat factory production, a history of Trent’s policy, an explanation of the policy and to whom the policy applies, are necessary.  These fact-sheets and leaflets will be distributed to Trent community during the Trent term following the successful completion of the project.

The purpose of this project is to conduct focus group discussions with past and present host organizations of the CBE program, in both Peterborough and Haliburton Counties, to investigate the impact that these projects have on the organization and/or the community at large.  Further, the student(s) would analyze all of the evaluation surveys that we have collected in previous years and see if there are any trends.
