The Community Service-Learning Program at the University of Alberta invites applications for our Postdoctoral Fellowship in Community Service-Learning. The term of the fellowship is 12 months with possibility of renewal (value = $44,000 plus $2500 research/travel fund). This fellowship is open to recent PhD’s (degree completed within last three years) with experience and demonstrated research interests in community-engaged research and teaching. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop and pursue a research project that relates to community service-learning and to actively contribute to the development of the Community Service-Learning Program at the University of Alberta. Additional responsibilities include facilitation of Humanities 101 or another program sponsored by Community Service-Learning and the opportunity to teach one of the following (with separate remuneration): CSL100, CSL300 or CSL350/360. Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have experience and demonstrated research interest in community-engaged scholarship and teaching (field or discipline open).
  • Must be willing to contribute to the development of the Community Service-Learning Program at the University of Alberta.
  • Open to citizens of any country.
  • Must have a doctoral degree (within 3 years post-PhD from the time of application submission or will complete PhD prior to commencing the fellowship).
  • Must not hold a permanent faculty position at another university or college at the time of application submission.
  • Must not hold or have held a postdoctoral fellowship from any funding agency or a University named fellowship (e.g. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, AHFMR, Killam/Notley).

Anti-Oppression101 Workshop in Peterborough PDF Print E-mail

In November OPIRG will be holding an Anti-Oppression Workshop for anyone interested in anti-oppression training. If you are interested in participating in these workshops, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The workshops will be taking place on November 10th, 13th and 17th.

The first workshop on November 10th will on Trent University campus from 5pm until 7pm. The next two workshops are at Sadleir house, on November 13th from 2pm until 4pm and the 17th from 5pm until 7pm.

If you would like to attend one or more of these workshops please let us know by November 3rd. Also, we will be accepting donations and encourage all the organizations to donate what they can.

EKOS Research Associates is currently organizing two online focus groups with 3rd and 4th year university students who  have completed a course-based (i.e., curricular) community-service learning experience in the past 2-3 years. These groups, which will be held during the last two weeks of October 2009, are part of a project that we are conducting on behalf of the HR Council for the Voluntary & Non-profit Sector.
