Biological Productivity of Horseshoe Lake and Implications for an Expanding Fishery of Apex Predators

Proj. #:4771
Description: The purpose of this project is to determine the sustainability of the apex predator fish species assemblage in Horseshoe Lake by means of examining the base-level biological productivity inherent to the system. There will be one research project for this initiative. The project is to evaluate the role of the Horseshoe Lake Provincially Significant Wetland (PSW) in the biological productivity of Horseshoe Lake and to assess the long-term sustainability of the current level of biological productivity. The end goal of the project is to understand if Horseshoe Lake can sustain the current array of apex predator fish species in the lake given its relatively small size easy accessibility from Minden and high fishing pressure.
