Soil Remediation of Gravel Pit

Description: Abbey Gardens is a Trust in Haliburton which aspires to convert a gravel pit into a variety of ecological service functions, a key one being agricultural. One of the challenges is to amend the subsoil in order to create topsoil for crops. Key research questions and project goals include (a) Review the options for soil amendment (e.g. organic detritus, and nutrients etc.) and evaluate the suitability for A.G. (b) Review in particular the probiotic options and evaluate the suitability for A.G. (c) Review the experiences of other gravel pit agricultural conversions in Ontario for ideas and best practices that might suit A.G.
