Kawagama Wood Ash Sourcing and Management Planning

Proj. #:4802
Description: Calcium has been declining in Kawagama Lake due to historic and ongoing acid deposition. These declining calcium levels have a negative impact on lower tiers of the food-chain and can thus affect the growth of various sport fish. Research will focus on identifying areas within Kawagama Lake where the application of wood ash to combat calcium loss would be most effective, as well as explore where to source this product, often marketed as a waste-byproduct. A community education booklet will also be produced.
